Oh my good night! It's been 4 years since my last post.

I'm not sure I can remember how to make these posts. Let's give it a go.

Since November 2020 a lot has happened. Both personally and professionally.

You're not here for the personal stuff, you just want to see illustrations. 

I've been busy making comics for the last 4 years. The fourth book in my graphic novel series 'Kitty Quest' is published in the US by Penguin Random House/Razorbill and in the UK by Simon and Schuster.

I'll go into this adventure in more detail soon - it's a miracle I've posted.

Let's just enjoy that for the moment.

Reasons to be Creative

It was a pleasure to give my talk at the Reasons to be Creative Festival

today. I was worried that I may have gone down a fetish rabbit hole

(pun intended) but I think I clawed the audience back with exploits

of my work in TV and games,

The sincerest form of flattery

I don't know who the original illustrator was or the agency who couldn't find of afford him but I was asked by an agency by a third party  if I could draw in the style below.

I said yes - do I get the gig?

They answered I don't know, your portfolio doesn't suggest you can.

I told them that's for showcasing my style not other people's and if you thought that why did you come to me in the first place.

Ignoring my second question they asked me to prove it. 

Muttering under my breath that this was a simple style to emulate I produced the above illustration.

I never heard from them again.

#JustWrite Day

 I do quite a lot of work for the Ministry of Stories which is a charity that encourages kids to write and nurtures their creativity. I often live illustrate for the Little Green Pig here in Brighton while the children yell story ideas at me to draw - it's great fun.

Recently the Ministry of Stories got together with pen makers BIC to produce the country's first hand written newspaper which was promoted as #JustWrite Day.

Look out for the paper in your local town and get writing!

I'm putting together a selection of images for a catalogue to show off my illustration oeuvre. Here's the first page. I'm hoping it shows me as the adaptable pen for hire that I am.

Graphic Facilitation

It turns out that graphic facilitation is just a fancy expression for sitting in on meetings and doodling away. How is this not unlike what you do in a normal meeting? Good question. Someone actually made it a job and you can get paid for doing it. Better still, it turns out this is something I can do quite well. Who wants me?

House of Illustration - Illustrator's fair.

 Yesterday I had a stall at the House of Illustration's Illustrators Fair.

It's a brilliant you new place and the fair was part of their housewarming season as they establish themselves in newly gentrified Kings Cross. It was a lot of fun and great to meet fellow illustrators out and about in the bright sun shine. I ran a chaotic, kid's workshop - even though some of the children I pressed into attending were confused and looking for the balloon guy I think they enjoyed it once I had them sat down, felt tip in hand!

If you find yourself around Kings Cross have a look at what the House of Illustration does. I need to go back as I hardly left my stall and there's loads to see. They're hosting some interesting illustration exhibitions so have a peek at their site and go and go and visit them.

MagNets map

Mail Me Art

There's a cool show opening up in London, featuring all the usual suspects, I believe I'm one of them, on Friday. It's called 'Mail Me Art' and it's Darren Di Lieto's collection of envelopes sent to him by all your favourite artists. But the twist is, they've all doodled all over them as they try to bamboozle Royal Mail. You can gaze in awe at the envelopes that found their mark at the Red Gate Gallery in London from tomorrow. There's an accompanying book in the works too.
